It’s no secret that learning a new language is hard. Between strange conjugations and seemingly purposeless exceptions, it can seem nearly impossible to reach fluency (or even a conversational level). To keep myself motivated, I like to listen to songs in the language I’m studying. Not only does it provide much needed exposure to colloquial speech, but singing along also helps me learn the intricacies of the accent and allows me to feel productive without opening my textbook. Here’s a short playlist of songs to get you started:
While learning a new language may seem intimidating, there are many tools to help you along the way. The most important thing is to stay engaged, which can easily be done through music. I hope you were able to find at least one song that stuck with you (let the “it’s-stuck-in-my-head-but-I-don’t-know-the-words” phase begin), and as always, let me know if I missed any songs that you think I should’ve added, especially if you know any from less eurocentric or popularized languages.
