A step into the past

3/20/2021

A step into the past is rarely what it seems
For memories are seldom more than
Vaguely fleeting dreams
A dizzying suffusion
Pokes fun at old contusions
A disorienting feeling
Speeds and leaves me reeling
The images conflict
My chest constricts
Suddenly I slip
My hand reaches out
Blindly grasping
For objective truth
To grab as I fall
But the solid proof
Diffuses
Just as it brushes
The tips of my fingers
